16th of May 2019 - Johanna Konta has reached the Italian Open quarter-finals with a 6-2 6-4 win over Venus Williams - her second match of the day.

16th of May 2019 - Maria Sharapova has pulled out of the French Open with on ongoing shoulder problem. She made the announcement via Instagram. Here’s what she had to say “Withdrawing from the French Open today. Sometimes the right decisions aren’t the easiest ones!!

In better news, I have returned to the practice court, and slowly building the strength back in my shoulder. I’ll really miss you Paris, until next year”.

6th of May 2019 - Katie Boulter has withdrawn from the French Open and will miss the rest of the clay-court season due to a back injury. Katie needed a hot water bottle during change overs in the Fed Cup, when Britain beat Kasachstan.

28th of April 2019 - Petra Kvitova has become the first player to win two WTA titles this year! She won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix by beating Anett Kontaveit 6-3 7-6. To claim her second title of 2019.

30th of March 2019 - Australia’s Ashleigh Barty has won the biggest title of her career by defeating Karolina Pliskova in straight sets at the Miami Open. 7-6 (7-1) 6-3. Barty hit a career-high of 15 aces and as a result of the win will move into the world’s top 10 rankings on Monday.

29th of March 2019 Karolina Pliskova has knocked Simona Halep out of the Miami Open, beating her 7-5 6-1 in the semi-finals to reach the final where she will play Ashleigh Barty on Saturday the 30th of March.

26th of March 2019 - The man who stabbed Petra Kvitova in her home in the Czech Republic has been sentenced to eight years in prison. Radim Zondra, 33, went to Petra’s apartment in 2016 saying he needed to inspect the boiler. He then grabbed Kvitova from behind and held a knife to her throat.

She suffered severe wounds to her left playing hand in the fight to free herself but returned to tennis five months later.

Appearing at a regional court in Brno, Zondra denied all charges against him.

Zondra, who is currently serving a prison sentence for another crime, was convicted of serious battery and illegal entry into Kvitova’s apartment. :: Read original story ::

17th of March 2019. Indian Wells, California, USA. 18-year-old Canadian wild card Bianca Andreescu has capped a dream fortnight with a thrilling win over three-time Grand Slam champion and former world No.1 Angelique Kerber to win the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells. Bianca won the final in the desert 6-4 3-6 6-4. This was Bianca's first WTA title and to top it off it was a Premier Mandatory. And look who congratulated her, click here >

13th of March 2019. Indian Wells, California, USA - Elina Svitolina claimed an epic win over Ashleigh Barty in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open. The match went on for three sets and took three hours and 12 minutes. Which was the longest women’s tennis match of 2019. The result was 7-6 5-7 6-4. Elina is now through to the quarterfinals.

24th of February 2019 - Alison Van Uytvanck won the Hungarian Open defeating Marketa Vondrousova 1-6 7-5 6-2.

23rd of February 2019 - Belinda Bencic has won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships; she beat Petra Kvitova in the final 6-3 1-6 6-2 to claim her first WTA title since 2015. (Her third career WTA title).

21st of February 2019 - Belinda Bencic has knocked former World No.1 Simona Halep out of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships to reach the semi-finals. The match went to three sets with the final result being 4-6 6-4 6-2.

19th of February 2019 - Naomi Osaka has been knocked out of the Dubai Tennis Championships in the second round to Kristina Mladenovic having received a first-round bye as the top seed, she was beaten 6-3 6-3.

18th of February 2019 - Serena Williams is back in the top 10 of the WTA rankings for the first time since returning from maternity leave. She is now world No.10.

16th of February 2019 - Elise Mertens came back from a set and a break down to defeat world No.3 Simona Halep at the Qatar Total Open to win her first title of the season and the biggest title of her career. The result was 3-6 6-4 6-3.

11th of February 2019 – Naomi Osaka has split with coach Sascha Bajin. She announced the news on the Twitter, saying “Hey everyone, I will no longer be working together with Sascha. I thank him for his work and wish him all the best in the future”

Sascha replied “Thank you Naomi, emoji, I wish you nothing but the best as well. What a ride that was. Thank you for letting me be part of this.

They worked together for 13 months with Naomi winning two back-to-back Grand Slam titles. (The 2018 US Open, followed by the 2019 Australian Open).

6th of February 2019 Simona Halep has hired Belgian Thierry Van Cleemput as her new coach. The pair, who were spotted working together last month at the Australian Open, will begin their partnership next week at the Qatar Total Open in Doha, which begins on the 11th of February.

3rd of February 2019 Dayana Yastremska has won the Hua Hin, Thailand Open by beating Ajla Tomljanovic 6-2 2-6 7-6 (7-3 tie-break).

3rd of February 2019 - Kiki Bertens has won the St. Petersburg Open, she beat Donna Vekic 7-6 (7-2 tie-break) 6-4. This was Kiki’s first title of 2019 and eighth in total.

30th of January 2019 - Olympic gold medallist Monica Puig has announced a new team headed by Kamau Murray. She made the announcement on the social media platform “Twitter” and said New team.. who dis?! So excited to have Kamau Murray in my corner! 30th of January 2019 - Maria Sharapova has pulled out of the St. Petersburg Open tournament due to a right shoulder injury. Sharapova was due to play in the all Russian tie against Daria Kasatkina in the second round of the tournament but withdrew due to shoulder ailments. She said "she will meet with doctors and hopes to be playing competitive tennis again as soon as possible". Daria Kasatkina will now play in the quarter-finals. 

28th of January 2019 - Maria Sharapova has beat Daria Gavrilova 6-0 6-4 in her first match since the Australian Open. The match was played in her home country of Russia at the St. Petersburg Open. 26th of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Naomi Osaka has won the Australian Open defeating Petra Kvitova in three sets. 7-6 (7-2) 5-7 6-4. As a result of Naomi winning the tournament she will become the number one player in the world when the new rankings are out on Monday. Read full story >

24th of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Petra Kvitova will face Naomi Osaka in Saturdays Australian Open final. With Naomi aiming towards a second Grand Slam win and Petra aiming for a third. The match will be live on Eurosport at 08:30 GMT, (In the UK).

24th of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Naomi Osaka has knocked Karolina Pliskova out of the Australian Open to reach back to back Grand Slam finals. Naomi won the match 6-2 4-6 6-4. Naomi will now face Petra Kvitova in Saturdays final. Naomi won the previous Grand Slam final against Serena Williams at the US Open in 2018.

24th of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Petra Kvitova has knocked Danielle Collins out of the Australian Open to reach the final. The first set was extremely tight, needing a tie-break for the Czech to win the set 7-2 in the tie. The second set was pretty much plain sailing for Petra winning it 6-0. The final result was 7-6 6-0. Kvitova will now face the winner of the second semi-final tie between Karolina Pliskova and Naomi Osaka in Saturday's Grand Slam final. 23rd of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. The bookmakers favourite, Serena Williams has been knocked out of the Australian Open by Karolina Pliskova. The Czech took the first set quite easily only for Serena to fight back to win the second set. The match then went into a final set which Karolina won 7-5. The final result was 6-4 4-6 7-5 in Karolina's favour. Pliskova will now face the US Open champion Naomi Osaka in the semi-finals on Thursday. 23rd of January 2019 - Melbourne, AustraliaNaomi Osaka has reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open after defeating Elina Svitolina 6-4 6-1.

22nd of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Danielle Collins has knocked Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova out of the Australian Open in three sets 2-6 7-5 6-1. She will now face Petra Kvitova in the semi-finals of the tournament.

22nd of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Petra Kvitova has knocked Ashleigh Barty out of the Australian Open in straight sets 6-1 6-4. She will now face Danielle Collins in the semi-finals. 

21st of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. All fourth round matches have been played and we now know who is playing who in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. Here are the line ups -

21st of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Serena Williams has knocked Simona Halep out of the Australian Open in three sets 6-1 4-6 6-4. She will now face Karolina Pliskova in the quarter finals. (Last eight).

21st of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Elina Svitolina has just knocked Madison Keys out of the Australian Open in three sets. Elina won the match 6-2 1-6 6-1 on the Margaret Court Arena.

20th of January 2019 - Melbourne, AustraliaMaria Sharapova has been knocked out of the Australian Open to home favourite Ashleigh Barty. Maria took charge of the first set playing some fantastic tennis and won the set only for Ashleigh to come back in the second set. 

Boos rang out as Maria took more than a seven and a half minute toilet break before the third set. She seemed ruffled by the crowd and lost the first game of the third set being broken to love. A packed crowd on the Rod Laver Arena was watching the fourth round tie, with the crowd clearing supporting the Aussie. Ashleigh won the match 4-6 6-1 6-4. (Maria was also given a code violation for taking to long on serving, by the chair umpire Alison Hughes). Rod Laver was present during the match.

20th of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Angelique Kerber has been knocked out of the Australian Open in straight sets to America's Danielle Collins. Angie was battered 6-0 6-2 in the fourth round tie on Margaret Court Arena.

19th of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. Top seed Simona Halep has beaten Venus Williams 6-2 6-3 and will now play younger sister Serena in the last 16.

18th of January 2019 - Melbourne Australia. (Rod Laver Arena). Maria Sharapova has knocked the defending champion Caroline Wozniacki out of the Australian Open. Maria won the match 6-4 4-6 6-3 in 2 hours and 24 minutes on Rod Laver Arena. To watch the match highlights click here >

17th of January 2019 - Britain's Johanna Konta has been knocked out of the Australian Open in the second round to Garbine Muguruza. The match lasted two hours and 42 minutes and finished at 03:12 in the morning. The two-time Grand Slam champion "Muguruza" won the match 6-4 6-7 7-5 in Melbourne. (One of the latest finishes in the tournaments history).

15th of January 2019 – Melbourne, Australia. Serena Williams stormed into the second round of the Australian Open by defeating Tatjana Maria 6-0 6-2 in just 49 minutes on Rod Laver Arena. Serena, the 16th seed, took the first set in just 18 minutes against Germany’s Maria. She fired 22 winners to win the match. Serena will now face Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard in the second round.

14th of January 2019 - Britain's No.3, Katie Boulter has won the first ever 10-point tiebreak at the Australian Open by beating Ekaterina Makarova 6-0 4-6 7-6 (10-6). To watch the video click here >

14th of January 2019 - Melbourne, Australia. The Australian Open is underway. Maria Sharapova opened play against British youngster Harriet Dart on Rod Laver Arena. Sharapova who is a former world No.1 and is a five-time Grand Slam champion sailed passed the British qualifier, Dart, winning the match 6-0 6-0. 13th of January 2019, 12.28 GMT - With only hours until the first Grand Slam of the year starts. (The Australian Open). The WTA girls have taken to social media in mass posting pictures of them in Australia or at the actual event which is held annually in Melbourne.

12th of January 2019 - Sydney International, Australia. Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic pulled off a phenomenal comeback to beat Aussie and crowd favourite Ashleigh Barty 1-6 7-5 7-6. She beat Barty in two hours and 19 minutes. Petra has now won the last eight finals she has played in.

12th of January 2019 - Hobart International, Australia. Sofia Kenin has won the Hobart International beating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in straight sets 6-3 6-0. This was Sofia’s first WTA title.

6th of January 2019Auckland, New Zealand. Julia Goerges has won the ASB classic in New Zealand for the second year in a row. She beat the Canadian teenage qualifier Bianca Andreescu in three sets 2-6 7-5 6-1.

6th of January 2019 - Brisbane, Australia. Karolina Pliskova has won the Brisbane International. She was two points away from defeat in the second set but managed to comeback to win the match against Lesia Tsurenko in three sets. With the final result being 4-6 7-5 6-2. 5th of January 2019 - Aryna Sabalenka has won the first tournament of the year (Shenzhen Open, China) by beating Alison Riske in three sets the result was 4-6 7-6 6-3. This was Sabalenka's third WTA title. To see the image she posted and what she said click here >

4th of January 2019 - ASB Classic, Auckland, New Zealand - Defending champion Julia Goerges survived a scare in the ASB Classic against Canada's Eugenie Bouchard. Genie took the first set and had match point in the 3rd set. However Goerges of Germany won the 3rd set tie-break 8-6. (Score 3-6 6-3 7-6). Julia will now face Viktoria Kuzmova in the semi-final.

4th of January 2019 - Shenzhen Open, China - Maria Sharapova has been knocked out of the Shenzhen Open by the No.1 seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-1 4-2. Maria Sharapova retired through injury.

3rd of January 2019 – ASB Classic, Auckland, New Zealand. Bianca Andreescu who is unseeded at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. Has knocked the defending Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki out of the tournament in straight sets 6-4 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals, where she will play Venus Williams. Bianca is only 18 years old.

31st of December 2018 - The 2019 tennis season has started. These are some of the players that won their opening matches. Maria Sharapova beat Timea Bacsinszky in straights sets in Shenzhen. China. Monica Puig beat Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3 6-2 in Auckland. (New Zealand). Venus Williams beat Victoria Azarenka in the ASB Classic, Auckland, New Zealand. (6-3 1-6 6-3). Julia Goerges beat Johanna Larsson 6-0 6-4 also in the ASB Classic.

23rd of December 2018 - Anna Kournikova has posted a hilarious video of her and one of her twins dancing to a Rudolph Christmas track. (Run Rudolph Run by Chuck Berry). You can see the ex-Russian tennis player dancing with one of her children in black Nike tracksuit bottoms with a white top on. It looks like the video was filmed on a luxury boat/yacht. 17th of December 2017 - The one and only legendary female tennis player Billie Jean King has picked up the lifetime achievement award at the 2018 BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year show.

Billie Jean King is a former American tennis player, now aged 75. She is classed as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She won 39 Grand Slam titles in singles and doubles competitions.

She is the founder of the WTA. (Women’s Tennis Association).

She is an advocate for gender equality and in 1973 won the Battle of the Sexes match against Bobby Riggs.

10th of April 2018 - The Australian tennis player Casey Dellacqua has announced her retirement from professional tennis. She made the announcement on the social media platform. (Instagram).

She said “She has been thinking about this for a while now, and she is hanging up her racquets. It’s time for me to be a Mum and spend time with my young children and also spend time with my family”. To watch her video announcement click here >

31st of March 2018 - Miami, Florida, USA. Sloane Stephens has won the Miami Open, by defeating Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia 7-6 6-1. This was Sloane's first title since winning the US Open in 2017. Stephens had beaten three former Grand Slam champions – Garbine Muguruza, Angelique Kerber and Victoria Azarenka - to make the final.

And you can now make that four as Ostapenko won the 2017 French Open. As a result of Sloane's win she will now climb to number 9 in the world when the new rankings are released on Monday. (This will be the first time Stephens has broke into the worlds top ten). 

21st of March 2018 - Miami, Florida, USA. Victoria Azarenka has beaten Cici Bellis in the first round of the Miami Open. Bellis struggled against Azarenka who played exceptional tennis to win the match 6-3 6-0. Cici Bellis only managed to hold serve once in the match. Victoria Azarenka will now play Madison Keys in the second round.

18th of March 2018 - Naomi Osaka has won her first WTA title: Indian Wells, BNP Paribas Open 2018 by beating Daria Kasatkina 6-3 6-2. To read more, click here >

13th of March 2018 - Simona Halep has reached the last eight of the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells.

13th of March 2018 - Venus Williams has knocked her younger sister Serena out of Indian Wells in the third round. Venus won the match in straight sets 6-3 6-4. This was Serena’s first tournament back on the WTA tour since giving birth to her first child. 

10th of March 2018 - Maria Sharapova has "mutually agreed" to part company with her coach of four years, Sven Groeneveld. 

9th of March 2018 - Indian Wells, USA - Serena Williams has won her first match after returning to the WTA Tour after giving birth to her first child. Serena received a warm reception from the crowd. She beat Zarina Diyas in straight sets 7-5 6-3. Serena was trending all day on social media with it also being international women's day.

8th of Match 2018 - Indian Wells, USA - Eugenie Bouchard and Maria Sharapova have both been knocked out of the BNP Paribas Open in the first round. Eugenie Bouchard was beaten by Sachia Vickery 6-3 6-4. Whilst Maria Sharapova lost to Japan's Naomi Osaka 6-4 6-4.

24th of February 2018 - Elina Svitolina has won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships by beating Daria Kasatkina in the final 6-4 6-0.

19th of February 2018 - Dubai, UAE, British number one Johanna Konta has reached the last 16 at the Dubai Duty Free Championships, after beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets 7-6 6-2. She will now face Russia’s Daria Kasatkina in the next round.

18th of February 2018 - DOHA, QATAR – Petra Kvitova has beat Garbine Muguruza 3-6 6-3 6-4 to win the Qatar Total Open. Read more >

17th of February 2018 - DOHA, QATAR – Petra Kvitova has knocked world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki out of the Qatar Total Open. Kvitova came from a set down to beat the Dane 3-6 7-6 7-5. Petra Kvitova will now face Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in tomorrows final.

16th of February 2018 - DOHA, Qatar - Garbine Muguruza came from a set down to beat Caroline Garcia 3-6 6-1 6-4 to reach her first semi-final of the tennis season/Qatar Total Open.

16th of February 2018 - DOHA, Qatar - World number 2 Simona Halep has withdrawn from the Qatar Total Open due to a right foot injury. Halep defeated Cici Bellis in the quarter-finals however later announced her withdrawal in a press conference.

16th of February 2018 - DOHA, Qatar - Caroline Wozniacki has beaten Angelique Kerber 7-6 1-6 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Qatar Total Open.

15th of February 2018 - Maria Sharapova has pulled out of the Dubai Duty Free Championship due to an injury she picked up in her loss to Monica Niculescu in the Qatar Open. Sharapova was handed a wild card into the tournament.

15th February 2018 - DOHA, Qatar - American qualifier/youngster CiCi Bellis claimed the biggest victory of her career after defeating defending champion Karolina Pliskova in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals at the Qatar Total Open.

25th of January 2018 - Caroline Wozniacki will face Simona Halep in the Australian Open final. Both players have never won a Grand Slam final. So their will be a new Grand Slam Champion for the first time on Saturday the 27th of January.

25th of January 2018 - Caroline Wozniacki beat Elise Mertens in the semi-finals of the Australian Open, in straight sets 6-3 7-6.

After just 6 matches played, the Belarusian had to pull out of all tournaments due to a custody battle with the baby’s father Bill McKeague. Court proceedings are still on-going and she is not able to attend tournaments until the dispute with her ex partner is resolved. Until then she has to stay in California.

This was the third time Caroline has won the Pan Pacific Open and her first WTA title of 2017.

This was Caroline's 7th final of the year, she came runner up in the previous sixth but managed to grab this title in Tokyo.

This also means Caroline has now won a WTA title every single year since 2008. She now has 26 career titles.

Update - Petra Kvitova is in good spirits after speaking to the media for the first time since being attacked by an intruder in her home with a knife.

It was great to see Petra smiling with the media. Petra gave a powerful message saying “I do not feel sorry for myself, and I will not look backwards”.

She also said "Yesterday morning, during a session with the doctor, I was able to move the fingers on my left hand. This to me is the greatest Christmas present I could have wished for".

20th of December 2016 - Petra Kvitova will not play tennis for at least three months after surgery following a knife attack at her home.

Surgeons spent almost four hours repairing tendons and nerves on her left hand - her playing hand.

Her spokesman said that considering the damage, “the surgery went well”.

20th of December 2016 - Petra Kvitova has been injured in a knife attack at her home in the Czech Republic.

In a statement Kvitova said “Today I was attacked in my apartment by an individual with a knife. In my attempt to defend myself, I was badly injured on my left hand. I am shaken but fortunate to be alive.

The injury is severe and I will need to see specialists, but if you know anything about me I am strong and I will fight this. Thank you all again for your love and support.”

Maria Sharapova was dropped from the WTA Rankings on the 24th of October 2016.

Johanna Konta is now in the top ten for the 1st time in her career.

Maria Sharapova’s two year doping ban has been reduced to 15 months following her appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. (CAS).

Maria will be able to return to the tennis court on the 26th of April 2017.

Maria Sharapova will find out in the first week of October 2016 if her two year doping ban will be overturned.
