Petra Kvitova wins first title since stabbing by beating Ashleigh Barty

Petra Kvitova has won the 2017 Aegon Classic in Birmingham, she beat Ashleigh Barty in three sets 4-6 6-3 6-2 at the Edgbaston Priory Club. Kvitova was a set down but managed to fight back to win the tennis match in three sets.

Petra Kvitova capped her outstanding comeback from a career-threatening hand injury by winning the Aegon Classic.

The Czech, playing in only her second tournament since she was stabbed by an intruder at her home in the Czech Republic in December 2016.

Petra beat 21-year old Ashleigh Barty from Australia in Birmingham.

Kvitova, 27 returned to the tennis court at the French Open in late May.

Kvitova first picked up a tennis racquet again in March, 12 weeks after the awful attack, and began practicing seriously at the beginning of May.

Petra who plays left handed, dropped to 16th in the world rankings, served an ace to clinch her 20th WTA tour title.

As a result of winning the match she moved up four places in the rankings to world number 12.
